A wrong-way crash along Highway 101 in Monterey has left two people dead late Tuesday night.
The Mercury News reports that the initial crash was caused when a 71-year-old man from Salinas drove his Honda onto the highway driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 101.
The driver of the Honda collided head-on with a 2015 Nissan Rogue being driven by a 38-year old woman from San Jose, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving two more vehicles.

The condition of the driver of the Ford, an 18-year-old man from Folsom and the driver of the Peterbilt, a 24-year-old man from San Bernardino County, has not been disclosed by authorities.
Both the woman and the Salinas driver were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Also, in the Nissan with the woman were two children. Both children were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their ages and current condition have not been released at this time.
The names of the two fatalities in the accident are being withheld by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family members.
