The tendency of teen drivers to take risks is perhaps the main reason why they have to pay more for their insurance coverage. Lack of experience and reckless driving often lead to mistakes that can cause a serious accident.
Fox 11 in Los Angeles reported that on Monday night, four teenagers were pulled over and detained by California Highway Patrol officers in Contra Costa County after leading them on a chase that at times reached more than 100 miles per hour.
According to a statement released by the CHP, officers witnessed a silver Kia Rio speeding in the westbound lanes of Highway 4 near the Laurel Road exit in Contra Costa County at approximately 6:00 P.M. on Monday, February 17th.
CHP officers activated their sirens and lights and attempted to pull the Kia over, but the driver refused to stop, leading the law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase.
At one point, CHP officers broke off their pursuit and lost sight of the suspect vehicle because it had reached speeds that were considered too dangerous to continue.
CHP officers later came upon the suspect vehicle near Willow Pass in Concord after it had crashed into an embankment and caught on fire.

A CHP officer extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher that he was carrying in his patrol cruiser. No one was in the vehicle by the time the officer came upon the wreck. Eyewitnesses at the scene told the CHP officer that they had seen the teens running away from the crash scene on foot.
The CHP and local law enforcement agencies set up a perimeter to search for the teens. The four juveniles were eventually located and detained by officers.
According to a post which appeared on the California Highway Patrol’s Facebook page, the teen who had been driving was booked into a Contra Costa County juvenile facility while the other four teenaged boys were held until they could be released to a parent or guardian.
No further information about the teens or pending charges has been released at this time.
