Commercial trucks are a vital component that contributes to the economic health of our country. However, the significant loads that these big rigs carry can sometimes pose a danger to others driving on the road. At any given moment, large loads can shift and even cause these large vehicles to overturn, spilling their load onto the roadway.

According to a story appearing on the Mercury News website, a similar accident happened on Thursday, March 19th, when a big rig overturned in the southbound lanes of Interstate 680. The truck was carrying a load of gravel which spilled onto the roadway during the morning commute.
In a statement issued by the California Highway Patrol on Thursday, the crash happened at approximately 8:20 A.M. on the Bay Area Freeway near the Crow Canyon Road exit. The cause of the crash has not yet been released.
A traffic alert was issued following the accident. The CHP did not specify how much gravel was spilled onto the highway or if anyone was injured in the crash.
Because of the current shutdown of many businesses due to the Corona Virus or Covid-19 pandemic, traffic was light on Thursday. As of 11:30 A.M., however, cleanup crews had only managed to open up one lane of the Interstate.
The CHP did not lift the traffic alert issued for the spill until approximately 12:20 P.M.
No citations have been issued at this time, and the accident is still currently under investigation.
