The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that drivers between the ages of 16 to 19 are more likely than other drivers to get into or cause an accident. Because they are more likely to engage in risky behavior such as driving recklessly and at higher speeds, teens are also more likely to be involved in a fatal crash.
NBC in Los Angeles reports that a car filled with teenagers was involved in a police chase on Wednesday night that ended in the death of a female pedestrian in Palmdale.
The crash happened 1200 block of East Avenue S. near the intersection with the 14 Freeway at 7:45 p.m. According to a statement issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Office, deputies were in pursuit of a suspect believed to be armed and dangerous because of the high rate of speed of the car.

In a statement, the law enforcement agencies said that deputies had just broken off the pursuit of the suspect vehicle when the car, filled with six juveniles, mowed down a woman who may have been out walking her dog at the time. She was on a sidewalk or bicycle path when she was hit by the car. The impact caused the suspect vehicle to flip over onto its side.
The woman died at the scene of the crash. Her identity was not released pending notification of family.
Neighborhood residents told NBC reporters that they heard a loud crash that “sounded like a sonic boom,” just before seeing the horrific scene.
The six teens who had been inside the vehicle were taken into custody. They were reported to have suffered only minor injuries in the fatal crash.
