We tell our children to not play in the street because we know it is dangerous. We teach them to look both ways before crossing the road and be safe and responsible pedestrians because we know that our children will not be able to avoid walking forever. It’s better for them to understand the potential dangers and protect themselves. After all, everyone ends up walking along the road at some point, even if we own a car.
Unfortunately, no amount of safety training or good pedestrian etiquette will protect us from all potential dangers. And drunk drivers are the greatest danger we could face.
