Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day. Cellphone video captured by an eyewitness to a crash that happened earlier this month in Fremont shows a police officer dragging an injured motorist from a burning vehicle.
The WRCB TV website reports that on Saturday, July 20th, Officer Jason Trzewieczynski responded to an accident in which an SUV crashed into some trees, ended up on its side and had caught fire. Trzewieczynski ran toward the vehicle and attempted to put out the vehicle fire with a fire extinguisher.
When Officer Trzewieczynski found that he couldn’t, put the fire out, he turned his efforts toward extricating the 28-year-old male driver who was trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Trzewieczynski climbed through the back hatch of the SUV and helped pull the injured driver out and get him a safe distance away from the fire. A resident in the area where the crash occurred was able to capture the dramatic rescue on a video that has since gone viral.
The Fremont Police Department was praising Trzewieczynski’s actions and said in a statement on Monday:
“We are proud of Officer Trzewieczynski for the quick lifesaving measures he took to safely get the driver out of the vehicle before it fully engulfed in flames.”
Officer Trzewieczynski, who had been a firefighter for 10 years before joining the Fremont Police Department, doesn’t believe praise is necessary for what he did, He insists that any of his fellow officers would have done the same when facing the same situation.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to an area hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is still currently under investigation.
