How a DUI Charge Can Affect Your Driving Privileges in California
California drivers can get a DUI (driving under the influence) charge if their blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level is 0.08% or higher. This can happen if you drink alcohol before driving, as even a small amount can impair your ability to drive safely.
For commercial drivers, the legal BAC limit is lower, at 0.04%, because of the increased responsibility of operating larger vehicles. A DUI (driving under the influence) conviction can affect your driving privileges and your ability to get a motorcycle license from the state.
If you are caught operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the police can take your license right away. The DMV can suspend the license before a court decides your case. If the court convicts you of DUI, the DMV can suspend your license for a longer period.
Can You Fight a DUI Charge Before Your License Is Suspended?
You can challenge a DUI charge before your license is suspended. If you want to get a motorcycle license, you must act quickly. By challenging the charge early, you can present evidence and arguments that could lead to the charges being dropped or reduced.
This can help prevent your license from being suspended and allow you to apply for a motorcycle license. You have only 10 days from the date of your arrest to request an administrative hearing, so act fast.

This includes attending classes to learn about the dangers of impaired driving. You might have to pay fines or spend time in jail, and you must serve the full suspension period before you can get a motorcycle license after a DUI charge.
