“What probably happened is they became involved in an altercation inside the car,” Lt. Barry Hall with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said, “At about that time the shot was fired, the woman was struck by gunfire. And as a result, the driver crashed.”
An area resident told CHP investigators that a man came to her home near the accident scene. The man said to her that his child was still in the car and that he needed to call for help. The man then left the location.
The incident coincided with a CHP report at approximately 2:20 a.m. of shots fired in the Compton area near the 710 Freeway.
Shortly after receiving the call, California Highway Patrol officers came upon the vehicle with a woman inside that had been shot to death. It is uncertain whether there had been a child in the vehicle at the time.
The unidentified subject was still at large at the time of the report.
The eastbound on and off-ramps of Rosecrans Avenue along the 710 Freeway were closed while detectives investigated the crime scene.
