A high-speed pursuit between a suspect and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies along the 5 Freeway on Thursday night has ended after the suspect abandoned the car and ran into oncoming traffic near Newhall Pass.
Fox 11 in Los Angeles reported on their website that the driver of an allegedly stolen vehicle was heading southbound on the 14 Freeway when he was spotted by sheriff’s deputies who gave pursuit. In a statement, a spokesperson for the LACSD said that shots were fired from the suspect vehicle at pursuing deputies before heading to the 5 Freeway and the Antelope Valley area.
Law enforcement officers deployed spike strips to stop the suspect vehicle. At one point, sparks and smoke were spotted coming from the suspect vehicle from the Fox 11 helicopter, indicating that at least one of the spike strips had caused tire damage to the car.
