Rollover crashes are both frightening and dangerous, often resulting in severe injury or death. According to experts and accident investigators, there are two different types of rollover crashes. An un-tripped rollover crash can happen when a top-heavy vehicle such as a commercial truck, for example, overturns. A tripped rollover can be triggered when a vehicle ventures off the road and the driver over-corrects, or if the vehicle hits another object like a curb, guard rail, or soft ground.

An accident that happened in Fresno earlier this month, however, may have had elements of both types of rollover crashes. ABC affiliate station KFSN-TV in Fresno reported that the accident sent three women to the hospital.
According to a statement issued by the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16th, in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 in Fresno. A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed drifted toward a center divider.
Investigators say that the driver overcorrected, sending her vehicle into a skid along the right shoulder of the highway. The car then went up an embankment before rolling over and came to a stop after hitting a light pole.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene and were able to extricate the three women from the overturned vehicle. The three women were transported to an area hospital for injuries they suffered in the accident. No further information about their identity or current condition has been released.
All three women were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. So far, no citations have been issued.
